About John
John Clendennen was born and raised in Kinnitty, County Offaly. A Graduate of Shannon College of Hotel Management and UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, he is a successful entrepreneur in the hospitality sector and was among the first in Ireland to introduce glamping as a tourism offering. Her is a former President of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland, where he represented publicans nationwide.
Before entering national politics, Deputy Clendennen served for over a decade as a Councillor on Offaly County Council, where he was a strong advocate for rural development, tourism and small business support. He has held positions on several boards, gaining experience across sectors including community development, manufacturing, financial services, retail and hospitality and education.
He was elected as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Offaly constituency in the November of 2024 general election, representing Fine Gael. In the Oireachtas, he serves on three committees: Enterprise, Tourism & Employment; Climate Energy & Environment; and Infrastructure & National Development Plan Delivery. He also serves as a Party Whip for Fine Gael.
